I am grateful for the opportunity to practice this profession.

Specializations
My private practice offers my training and 40 years work experience in:
Transpersonal psychotherapy - the integration of body, mind and spirit
Transpersonal psychotherapy embraces myth, religion and spirituality. The mystery and complexity of the human consciousness, and soul have too often been undervalued in traditional psychology that assumed a medical science only model.
Individual, Couples, and Family Psychotherapy
Although I have treated some children, my practice has centered upon adolescents and adults including elders. Of course, family sessions include people of all ages. I create safety that encourages inner exploration, healing change, and transformation.
Group Therapy
Group therapy can be the “graduate school of therapy” and offers experiences for men and women that augment and expand individual, couple and family therapy. The groups become therapeutic communities where members experience the healing that comes from being in relationships where honesty, compassion, and openness are highly valued. Many of my groups have lasted for decades and provide a sense of belonging and community. Experienced in many group modalities, I have trained and supervised others in group leadership.
Trauma issues
I have been honored by several organizations for my clinical and advocacy work on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and war traumas, being one of the pioneers in the research and treatment of PTSD beginning in 1978. Over the years I have expanded that work to survivors of childhood psychological traumas as well as physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, ritual abuse, vocational and other traumas.
Addiction (Alcohol and Other Drug) and recovery
Addiction recovery opens the door to a new life of healing and growth. I am experienced in 12 step programs including those serving adult children of addicted families, codependency issues and family of origin work. I work with early recovery, relapse, and advanced stages of recovery issues. I also offer assessment and referrals to interventionists and inpatient treatment centers. Addiction recovery is a team effort.
Marital and relationship conflict and relationship building
Relationships are where “the rubber meets the road” in our psychological maturity. They provide us with the greatest opportunity for growth and meaning as they provide us the opportunity to develop skills such as patience, generosity, and compassion. My work focuses on the development of attitudes and actions that transform problems into happiness. This is a positive approach where blame is transformed into cooperation and collaboration. Teamwork has no “I”.
Supervision for those in the helping professions
I have great admiration and gratitude to my teachers and mentors. It is through their generosity, wisdom and guidance that I owe any of my success. Consequently, I have dedicated myself to the service of passing on what I have learned to the next generation. It has been my privilege to engage in numerous supervisory, mentoring relationships and participation in many academic projects with others in the helping professions.
Bereavement and grief counseling
Resolution and healing of grief and loss are a universal human need. This may include the loss of loved ones as well as the loss of identities and passages of our lives. We need empathic witnesses as we resolve loss in a loving and compassionate environment.
Consultation to educational, business, and religious organizations
Working with academic institutions, large and small businesses, religious leaders and organizations, and many non-profit organizations, I have helped develop effective communication, team building, and leadership skills.
Multi-cultural, interfaith and LGBT sensitivity
It has been my privilege to work with peoples from diverse backgrounds, cultures, religions, sexual orientations and world views. I am educated, experienced and sensitive in feminist approaches and I honor the great diversity and beauty of the human family.
Financial issues
Issues of finance, income, spending and saving habits are hard for some to talk about yet they are vital for the health of individuals, couples and families. I do not provide any financial or investment planning but facilitate conversation on how money issues impact our personal, relational, and family life.
Life coaching and mentoring
Sometimes people seek counseling for guidance in navigating everyday life. I am honored to work with people with everyday challenges which some call mentoring or coaching.

My methods are both traditional and innovative. Therapy is a creative venture at its best. Each person I have worked with has taught me something different about the therapy process and about myself as a therapist. I am committed to my own growth personally and professionally - and yours!
